Volcanic eruptions that occurred 17 million years ago, wiping out most of the forest. Only a few remaining forest areas, including in the area of Mount Kaputar. During its development, the remaining forests became isolated and invertebrate species typical paradise.
Species found on Mount Kaputar are genetically distinct. The species can only be found in the region of 10 x 10 kilometers in the summit of Mount Kaputar.
Based on the uniqueness of the area of Mount Kaputar, Scientific Comitee New South Wales states that Mount Kaputar is "endangered ecological community" and in need of protection from interference and threats from development.
