Glass shelled snails
New species of snails found. Special, species that live in one of the deepest caves in the world, Lukina Jama-Trojama in Croatia, and has a transparent shell glass tub.
Name of snail species found is Zospeum thollusum. This fauna is permanently blind and living in caves.
Scientists from the Goethe University, Frankfurt, and Biospeleological Society in Croatia found one specimen of this fauna, identify, and publish its findings in the journal Biology Subterranian.
The animal was found at a depth of 980 meters in a room full of nameless cave rocks and sand, and has a small water stream.
Species in the genus Zospeum has limitations in motion. However, the choice of living in a muddy habitat and the fact that they are used to living in caves near the drainage, suggesting that they are not immobile.
According to scientists, the species in the genus are usually spread by water flow or by hitching a ride in mammals.
Lukina Jama-Trojama is the deepest cave in Croatia, including a vertical cave and has a depth of 1,392 meters.
The cave ecology unique because it consists of three micro-climate, with a section of ice on the surface temperature of 1 degree Celsius, the center with a temperature of 2 degrees Celsius, and the basis of the temperature of 4 degrees Celsius.
Conditions of extreme cave an attraction for scientists. Many undiscovered species may live in the cave.
